What Would Eazy-E Think About Social Media and Modern Fame?

Man, if we had social media back in the day, we would've been unstoppable. But I also see how it's a trap if you ain't careful.

Back then, we had to earn our fame the hard way. You dropped a record, got radio play, built buzz in the streets, toured, and proved yourself through actual talent and presence. It took time and work. Now? Anybody can get followers, but followers ain't the same as loyalty, and clout ain't the same as real influence.

The advantage of social media is you can go directly to your audience without needing a record label or media gatekeeper. That's powerful. If N.W.A had that? We could've spoken directly to millions without any filter or corporate censorship. We could've responded to our critics in real time. That's real power.

But here's the trap I see: people get caught up in the numbers game and lose sight of the actual product. They're performing for likes instead of creating art that matters. They're beefing online for engagement instead of making moves that build real empire. Social media rewards noise, and noise ain't always substance.

Also, social media exposes you in ways that previous generations didn't have to deal with. Every mistake, every bad take, every bad day gets documented and clowned. That pressure is different. You gotta be smarter about what you project because it's permanent.

If I was coming up today, I'd use social media as a tool, not as the whole game. I'd use it to build, to promote, to speak truth, but I wouldn't let it dictate my decisions or my self-worth. The real money and real influence still comes from owning something—owning your label, owning your catalog, owning real assets. Social media is free rent they let you stay in, but you don't own it.

The lesson is: build your own platform first. Own your product. Own your catalog. Use social media to amplify what you already own, but never make the algorithm your boss.
