How Do I Find My Purpose and Calling in Life?

Purpose is not something you find in a book or discover through analysis. Purpose is something you live into, step by step, moment by moment. It is found not in the big questions but in the small faithfulness of each day.

Many people ask me, 'How did you know you were called to work with the poor?' The truth is simple: I listened to God in prayer, and I said yes. Not yes to a grand vision of helping millions. Yes to the person in front of me. Yes to the next small step. Purpose grows from obedience, not from clarity.

You do not need to see the whole path ahead. You do not need certainty about your entire life. You only need to know what love is asking of you today. Look around. Who is lonely? Who is suffering? Who is invisible to the world? That is your calling, right there.

Your purpose might be as a teacher, parent, nurse, or artist. It might be in the workplace or in your home. It might be with thousands or with one. But whatever your work, do it with complete love. This is how you make it matter.

I also tell you this: do not wait to feel worthy or prepared. I did not have training or resources when I started. I had only a conviction that God loved the poor, and I was willing to try. This is enough. Your willingness is enough.

Begin where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. Serve one person with total love. Then tomorrow, serve one more. Do not measure yourself against others or against some imagined perfect calling. Your calling is to love, wherever you are.

God does not call the equipped. God equips the called. Trust this. Show up. Love faithfully. And slowly, mysteriously, your life will become purposeful. You will look back and see that every small yes, every moment of service, every act of love has woven together into something beautiful and true. This is how a life of purpose unfolds.
