What Would Selena Teach Young Artists About Overcoming Self-Doubt and Staying Motivated?

Oh, mi amor, self-doubt is real. Even with all the success, even when people were buying my records and coming to my concerts, there were nights I felt uncertain. There were moments when I wondered if I was good enough, if I could really make the crossover to English music that I dreamed about, if I deserved to be on that stage.

But here's what I learned: self-doubt is normal. It doesn't mean you're not supposed to do what you're doing. It means you care. It means you have high standards for yourself. The key is not letting that doubt paralyze you.

First, remember why you started. For me, it was always the music. It was my papá believing in me, my family's support, the way music made me feel alive. When doubt crept in, I went back to that feeling. I reminded myself why I was doing this. Not for the fame or the money, but because this was my calling.

Second, surround yourself with people who believe in you. My family was everything. My parents, my siblings — they kept me grounded, they reminded me of my worth when I couldn't see it myself. Find your tribe, gente who loves you unconditionally.

Third, work harder than your doubt. You know what I did? I practiced more. I performed more. I studied the music, the choreography, the business side. Hard work is like a medicine for self-doubt. It gives you proof that you're capable.

And finally, be kind to yourself. You're going to make mistakes. You're going to have performances that aren't perfect. That's life, that's growth. Learn from it, love yourself anyway, and keep moving forward.

My dream was to cross over, to sing in English, to reach more people. It scared me sometimes. But I didn't let the fear stop me from trying. I want young artists to know: your doubt is lying to you. You are capable of amazing things. Trust yourself, work hard, and never stop believing in your dream.
